Frequently Asked Questions

What it is (and what it isn't)?

  • It has no ambition of replacing the Big Book or being directed primarily as a refutation of Big Book ideas.
  • It is considered to be a return to more orthodox AA themes.
  • It addresses currently dominant positions of religion based spirituality as "outside issues."
  • It is specifically for sponsors wishing to benefit from Redux presentations of experience with sponsorship, not intended to be a replacement reading for the Big Book.
  • The Big Book is heavily referenced in the Redux content. Redux reinforces Big Book ideas along the lines of what may have been the authors' intent.
  • Redux may offer an expanded comprehension of Big Book ideas by focusing on specifics as they appear relevant to sponsorship themes.

What is the Redux team motivation?

  • Redux considers many important aspects of effective sponsorship to be in a state of crisis. It responds based on years of experience, strength of a more regimented concurrence with the AA Traditions and an abiding hope that contemporary AA outcomes can be significantly improved. The Redux content reflects an awareness that AA's reputation is now fostering a troubling (non-Traditional) reluctance by individuals who have historically referred alcoholics to the program.
